It's a great place full of rich history and it has a very good layout. The gift shop is also eye catching and holds some unique treasures. The staff has always been polite and helpful. However, I would not recommend making a trip here unless you call and speak with someone to make sure they are indeed open. Do not settle for the answering service's listed hours.
Very informative. Lots of artifacts and educational. We will visit again.
My husband and I decided to explore some of the more local museums and sites over the weekend. We were greatly disappointed when we arrived here and discovered, after calling to check the hours, that the museum was closed.
I have been here a few times and on occasion I have found the hours to be unpredictable. The hours are listed on the door, online, and also on their answering service.
This is truly an overlooked treasure of Southwest Virginia! Anyone wanting to learn about the history of Saltville and the surrounding area, from the last ice age to the 20th century, should plan to visit this establishment! Plan to spend 3 to 4 hours in order to fully absorb what the museum has to offer. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Kids and adults will truly enjoy and learn more than you can imagine!
Very well done exhibits for the size of the museum and the town it is in. Will definitely stop again.
Very informative. Super friendly staff. Amazing history.
